As is the case with many towns the size of Whitby, there are a number of different
services that help to advance the feeling of community. Let's take a look
at a few different resources Whitby offers as far as important aspects of the
city.
Real Estate: Without real estate, there would literally be no cities in Canada,
so part of any city's community plan is getting word out there about what
is available. Realtors cooperate with city initiatives to offer waterfront real
estate listings, town listings, and the latest news in developments through
several different mediums.
Whitby also specifically encourages the growth and development of businesses
big and small within the town. The publications offered by the Community and
Marketing Services department give entrepreneurs insight into the different
commercial real estate options available in the city as well as economic and
work force reports and other information important to businesses.
Sports: Whitby has several different amateur sports leagues in operation, everything
from school athletics to city wide softball, soccer, and lacrosse leagues. In
fact, lacrosse is a hugely important sport in Whitby. The city is home to the
Brooklin Redmen Senior A Lacrosse Club. One of the most successful franchises
in Canadian history, attending these games is a chance to see come high class
action, Ontario based lacrosse.
Entertainment: Those looking for something to do for fun will always be able
to find it in Whitby. The city has the usual assortment of movie theatres, parks,
hiking and biking trails, and other attractions. Nothing too different than
you would find in downtown Toronto, townhomes lining the streets.
In the summer, Whitby does offer some unique opportunities for entertainment
within the town limits. Every Wednesday night from June until August, people
flock to Rotary Centennial Park for Summer of Music events. These concerts run
the full gamut of styles, with jazz bands one week and folk music the next.
Designed for the whole family, this concert series is constantly growing in
popularity.
Other park events in summer include Movies in the Park. This community feature
offers a different movie each week in a different city park. It's a great
opportunity for a romantic evening or some family fun!
For history buffs, Whitby offers the Camp X historical park. This park commemorates
the spy camp established by Sir William Stephenson, the man made famous by the
book A Man Called Intrepid. Stephenson established the camp in 1941 to train
spies who then parachuted into Nazi Germany as leaders of the resistance movement
and to gather information.
Whether you are looking to establish a business eligible for the R & D
tax credit Canada offers or just looking for a night out on the town, Whitby
has the community resources for you.
