Education

When relocating to a new town, it's good to know that there is a strong, reliable education system in place for your children to learn and grow. For anyone moving to Newmarket, Ontario, you can rest assured. With a wide variety of elementary, secondary, catholic, and private schools in the area, your children are assured a well structured education provided by supportive and passionate teachers, whose dedication to learning are second to none. So if you're looking to escape the urban rush of the GTA and raise the kids somewhere quiet, sell off your real estate in Riverdale, Toronto, or your high priced condo at 100 Yorkville, and take the family to Newmarket. You won't regret it.

In the public education area, there are fifteen elementary and four secondary schools in the Newmarket area, all under the supervision of the York Region District School Board. With education initiatives such as ABEL (Advanced Broadband Enabled Learning), and Character Matters! (an educational system that puts the focus on students developing strong personal skills like respect, ethics, and honesty), schools in Newmarket provide the youth with a safe and supportive learning environment that encourages them to develop strong personal skills and keep them enthusiastic about education with today's latest learning techniques and technologies. You shouldn't have much trouble keeping the kids hitting the books... provided you can keep them away from the Newmarket House League hockey tournament, the longest running house league hockey tournament in Ontario!

There are several alternatives to public education available in Newmarket as well. There are seven elementary schools and one secondary school, Sacred Heart Catholic High. Sacred Heart has a strong educational structure, a successful and competitive athletics department, as well as a rich history of community and charity involvement. They participate in many fundraisers such as 30 Hour Famine, Habitat for Humanity, and the Terry Fox Run, and have actively aided people in Guatemala through the organization Hands of Hope for the Children since 1999. If you prefer having your children learn in a private institution, Newmarket is home to Pickering College, Ontario's second oldest independent school. Founded in 1842, Pickering has a proud heritage, a sound academic and athletic ethic, and has recently begun developing both new technology and environmentally conscious practices.

Newmarket is also home to Everest College, which provides students with training in the fields of Business, Technology, and Health Care. Students are offered a variety of programs to help compete in today's increasingly competitive job market. Though it may not be as intellectually stimulating as a scientific research and experimental development program at McMaster University, or as off beat as a degree from a faux painting school in California, Everest College offers Newmarket youth with an opportunity to get ahead in practical, real world careers. So whether you're a small family or a young go-getter, it's clear that in Newmarket, there's a lot for you to learn!
