There are many different factors which go into deciding where a family will make their home. Usually, job considerations take precedence over anything else; after all, you can't live in a place and not bring in some regular money.
For many families, the next most important things to consider when it comes to finding a home are the ones which directly affect children. When deciding between a home in Etobicoke and a Mississauga real estate listing, for example, a family will often base the final choice according to which piece of property has the greatest benefit to their children. Is the neighbourhood safe? Are there parks and other places where children can engage in recreation? And, of course, what type of education is available near to the neighbourhood in which the home is located?
Let's take a look at that final question in the remainder of this article. First off, it is important to note that Oakville offers educational opportunities beyond those of many communities in the country. Unlike places such as the United States, Canada has a quality public education system, something which does come into play when considering Toronto real estate. Canada will have the same public curriculum as Maple Ridge, and so on. Equal education opportunities no matter what neighbourhood the school is in is part of the Canadian cultural identity.
The strength of the public education system in Canada does not mean that there are not private schools, and Oakville is certainly an illustration of that. Many parents have reasons for sending their kids to a private school, from shielding them from negative influences (the main focus of many religion based schools) to focusing their studies in particular areas (music and arts schools). Oakville actually has one of the highest ratios of private to public schools in the country, which means that parents uncomfortable with public education have a broad range of options.
If you prefer to send your kids to a public school and spend the extra money on other things such as a nanny, Oakville still has plenty of options for you. There are five high schools in the city, and over two dozen elementary schools. Every neighbourhood within the affluent city is therefore well served.
Oakville itself has only one institution dedicated to post secondary learning. Parents who dream of their kids someday filing class action law suits in Canada or performing major surgeries will have to cut the apron strings a bit earlier, as Sheridan College offers mainly undergrad programs. However, parents whose students are interested in a variety of different arts areas will be delighted with the credentials this college has to offer.
If educational options are at the top of your list when it comes to factors which will affect your home buying decision, then Oakville is a great place to consider purchasing. We do have the full list of educational opportunities offered within the city for prospective buyers to view here on our site.
