One of the greatest problems facing the ever growing population of Vaughan today
is the lack of health facilities within the city's boundaries. Vaughan is
one of the only city in all of Canada without its own hospital. However, plans
are in motion not just to build a new hospital for the city, but also to set up
a community support network that includes a Wellness Center, an Emergency Medical
Services network, as well as additional support services such as long term health
(home care, nursing homes, mental health, etc.). All these features are collectively
known as the Vaughan Health Campus of Care, a long term project to bring top shelf
health and wellness to the growing and aging population of the budding city.
Though the project is still in its early stages, according to information found
online project management is taking the necessary steps to ensure the funding
for the program can be acquired. Just last October, the Vaughan Health Care
Foundation raised over one million dollars at their second annual fundraising
event, another positive step in bringing much needed health care to Vaughan.
With support from local and provincial government, the Vaughan Health Campus
of Care is quickly becoming a much clearer reality, bringing the future of Vaughan
health care closer to reality.
Another crucial step in this bold project is site selection. Unlike the three
hospitals servicing Kitchener Waterloo real estate listings for the new hospital
must be centrally located so as to best accommodate all areas of the city. With
a population nearing 250,000 people, it is vital that all people can have quick
and efficient access to health services. If someone were to somehow ingest an
effluent treatment chemical, it is important that they receive fast treatment
no matter where in the city they may be.
Though the planning for the hospital is only at what is called the Master Program/Master
Plan/Business Plan stage, the VHCF have made significant strides in bringing
their vision of the Vaughan Health Campus of Care to fruition. As of April 2009,
over $5 million dollars have been raised towards the project. The next step
is to find a viable site location for the hospital so that, with the support
of local government, the project can move into the next phase, the Functional
Program.
The creation of a new hospital and additional health services for Vaughan not
only means accessible health care but also a lot of new jobs for its citizens.
Everyone knows, whether you're from Kamloops BC or La Grange NY real estate
bills don't pay for themselves, so it's nice to know that with its
ever growing population that the people of Vaughan have a chance not only for
greater health, but also economic well being. After all, no one wants to resort
to taking cash for scrap gold when it comes time to pay the mortgage!
