Newmarket

Located about 45 kilometres north of real estate in Toronto, Canada, is the town of Newmarket. With a population of just under 75,000, many provinces would qualify Newmarket as a city, but due to the sizable populations of so many of the municipalities within Ontario (and within proximity to Newmarket in particular, including Oshawa real estate and home listings in Mississauga) the community is officially recognized as a town.

The population and classification mean that, as far as economic opportunity goes, Newmarket is typical of other Golden Horseshoe communities. That is to say, a local economy driven by Food and Beverage industries, some Manufacturing and value added, as well as local administration in the form of Health, Education and other Government Services is available, while residents may also take advantage of the proximity of the town to larger municipal centres including Toronto and Burlington to access employment opportunities.

In fact, like many communities in the Greater Toronto Area, Newmarket experienced high growth rates in the last two decades due to its closeness to these major centres. For this reason, it enjoys a reputation as a Toronto bedroom community, where the income of the city can be earned through a commute, thus skipping prohibitive real estate costs, like can be found in homes for sale in Streetsville or a condo for sale in Scarborough.

Where Newmarket begins to stand out when it comes to towns and cities within the Golden Horseshoe is the commitment to the environment that has been made by the local government. Large communities are doing everything from recycling to setting up systems with waste water treatment chemicals and Newmarket is not left behind. Recognition of the public awareness of the environmental extremes in which the world finds itself today has helped to form municipal policy in the Newmarket area, and, as a result, the town is one of Ontario's leaders in municipal environmental leadership. Here are just a few examples:

Urban planning in Newmarket is helping keep the population density of the city at current levels, thus avoiding problems that come with overcrowding, including pollution, drug use, and crime.
A waste management program has made municipal garbage collection a task of three parts, where household waste, compost, and recyclable materials are all picked up separately.
Local officials encourage pesticide free growth of both public and private gardens and landscaping.

Finally, when it comes to recreation, the town of Newmarket has literally created a small piece of paradise in the man-made Fairy Lake, located at the centre of town. This lake is a favourite gathering spot for many members of the local community, and the site of many town events.
